What if...

...you could take incredible photos easily and effortlessly?

...you could capture your family, your business & the world around you in exactly the way you wanted?

... you could fill your home with stunning art that YOU have created?

...You could unleash your creativity and see the world in a whole new way?

Hey! I'm Michelle...

... and I'm a professional photographer and trainer. I work with clients all over the world to create amazing images - whether it's me behind the camera, or them!

These days, photography is everywhere - as long as you've got a smartphone, you're in business! Yet I've met an increasing number of people who feel frustrated that their pictures never quite turn out the way they imagined...

  • Some had high hopes their expensive new camera was going to magically transform their photography... but were left feeling disappointed and annoyed that nothing seemed to have changed (and that camera's now just gathering dust).
  • Others invested in photography training days... but for one reason or another, the information they were supposed to absorb didn't quite stick.
  • And still others feel a real pull to photography as a creative medium - or even a career! - but got quickly overwhelmed and confused by all the jargon, expensive equipment and technical details.

I can totally relate...

When I began my photography journey, I had a teeny little film camera, an even tinier budget... and a boatload of enthusiasm. I used to look with envy at all the 'pros' with their massive lenses and confident swagger and think "I'll never be as good as them". And when you're just starting out, your confidence can be easily crushed - I remember a couple of times when harsh remarks from other photographers almost made me give up on my dream before it had even started!

A safe space to grow, create and collaborate is so important when you're learning how to do something - and that's exactly what I've created with Make Friends With The Lens.

If you choose to join the course, you'll be part of a community of like-minded, supportive and positive people who are keen to get to know you and help each other to enjoy this wonderful craft.

Because the fact is - despite what Canon or Nikon would tell you - photography remains at its heart relatively simple.

You don't need thousands of pounds of equipment or 5 years experience to create an amazing photo - you just need a solid understanding of a few key principles, a willingness to experiment and practice, and an appreciation of the world around you. And that's exactly what I'm going to teach you on this fun, friendly 6 week foundation course.

Each week, we're going to journey deeper into the wonderful world of photography together. I am going to show you how to create the images you dream about creating, step by step and piece by piece.

It's a no jargon, no bs zone - you won't find me swinging out the acronyms or trying to impress you with big technical words - this course is totally accessible and down to earth. It's designed to cement your understanding of the foundation principles quickly and easily, so that you can progress onto the fun stuff!

As part of a friendly, supportive community, you will learn how to master your camera and create images you love. Every week, we'll learn another key foundation principle of photography, each building on the last.

I love how Michelle presents the lessons in Make Friends with the Lens.

She makes photography easy and accessible with just the right amount of information to encourage and inspire you to experiment with the settings on your camera, and is generous with her knowledge and advice.

I signed up as I wanted to be able to take great product, portfolio and art inspiration photos for my creative business, as well as photos of family and local landscapes, and I admired Michelle’s style of photography. I’ve come away with a clear sense of my own photographic style and am excited to keep practicing the skills I’ve learned. I highly recommend the course.

I can't tell you how good it feels to actually be able to use my fancy-pants camera and not have it gathering dust in the cupboard because I didn't know how to use it properly.

Michelle's course really helped me understand what makes a good photo, how to use my camera to its fullest and take a great shot without feeling overwhelmed or like I wouldn't be able to remember it once the training was over.

The week after learning with Chelley, I took my camera to Florence, Italy and I was able to take photos I couldn't believe I took! It is so good to actually have great photos from my trips and not just iphone photos that are blurry when printed.

One day, as I was browsing the internet for inspiration, I came across Michelle's website and found not only great contents and photographs, but also a very honest and motivating blog. I decided to subscribe as I wanted to learn more about her and her work.

Michelle’s passion, energy and talent made it easy for me to join her “Make Friends with the Lens” photography course.

I wasn’t disappointed. The way Michelle structured the course and the examples she used were a great way to learn. My two favorite parts were watching her videos every week and going out on a date with myself to shoot. The chapter about composition was my favourite.

I hope you'll join Michelle’s Make Friends with the Lens course. You will learn a lot from her professional experience in an easy, inspiring and fun way!

  • q-iconBut I don't have a fancy camera - can I still do this?

The simple answer is – YES! To gain maximum value from the course, you’ll benefit from having a camera that allows you to have manual control over the settings and that you can transfer images from onto your computer.

But even if you’re participating with just your cameraphone, the principles of photography still apply – and you’ll still see a marked improvement in your abilities and images!

  • q-iconBut I'm a complete technophobe, and I struggle to understand anything technical!

Don’t worry – we’re going to walk through a single principle at a time, in a linear, easy to understand, straightforward way. The course will be free from jargon and backed up with practical exercises, worksheets, and help available in the online community if you get stuck.

  • q-iconBut I work full time / have a family / run a business and I'm not sure I have enough time to dedicate to this right now

Participants can contribute to the community and spend as much time as they like on the weekly activities. This is a fun and friendly course, and I’m here to encourage you – think of me more as a helpful prefect rather than a strict headteacher who’ll tell you off if you haven’t done your homework! Obviously, you will progress much faster and more assuredly if you take the time to do the exercises, but it’s your choice how much time you put in – plus, if you fall behind the course schedule, you still have lifetime access to all the modules so can do them at your own pace.

  • q-iconBut I'm scared of looking silly and letting other people see my photos!

The Friends community is a supportive, friendly and non-judgemental group where we help and encourage each other. When I was starting out, I had some horrible experiences which really crushed my confidence and almost stopped me trying to be a photographer due to what people said to me. Because of that, it is my intention that this community be a safe space where you can learn and grow in peace, at your own pace, surrounded by friends and with a helpful mentor. You can rest assured you won’t look silly; and putting your work ‘out there’ is simply a part of being an artist – something you need to get used to if you want to get better at photography!
